This is a new 2007 Rescue Vehicle, it was purchased from Life Star Rescue of Van Wert, Ohio. It is a 2007 Spartan Advantage Cab and chassis with a 20 foot non-walk-in box. It is powered by a 400 hp Cummins Diesel which is connected to a Allison automatic transmission. The cab is set up to carry six crew members. Inside the cab you will find and array of radios connected to a David Clark headset for all six of the personnel. All headsets have intercom capabilities with the driver and officer seats being the only ones that can contact dispatch. You will also find a refrigerator in the cab for keeping water and sport drinks cool for hydration on those hot summer days.
The rescue box was specially built to our specs, and has eleven compartments on ground level and four above. This box has a stairway to get too the upper level of the box that stores away in the catwalk area of the upper level. All compartments were specially designed to handle our specific needs and tools. Several compartments have transverse trays that can be accessed from either side of the truck. The truck has a 25 kw pto driven generator, this is used to power our 115 volt scene lights, and to provide power to the two two hundred foot electric reels that are located on board the truck. You will also find a 3000 watt light tower that towers over head at about 16 feet. This is a state of the art rescue truck and it is the first new truck this program has ever had.
We not only provide extrication service to victims, we are a certified B.L.S. Non-transport truck through the State of Indiana E.M.S. Office. We are involved after extrication with patient care. 98% of the rescue members are at minimum a first responder. We do have several EMT's on the program along with a nurse. So, patient care is a large service that we provide. We assist PHH at many scenes along with the different Volunteer Fire Departments that we work with.
